Meet Lyle McCulloch – Mutneys Customer Service
Hi everyone. My name is Lyle McCulloch and I’m 27-years-old. You’ve probably already spoken to me as I deal with most of the telephone calls to the office. I really enjoy speaking to all you customers, hearing your stories and guiding you to the best Mutneys product for your needs.
I’ve only been here nine months but every day is different. I’m kept busy talking to new and existing customers, dealing with any returns and I’ve just taken over running our sharpening service – so it keeps me very busy.
The thing I find most rewarding about working at Mutneys is the people – both the customers and the staff. I like working for a small family owned business and we have a great atmosphere here particularly when we are watching the antics of our office pets.
My family always had pet dogs when I was growing up but sadly we have just lost our family dog – a Rhodesian Ridgeback – but she was 13 and a half so she had a long and happy life. We also had a holiday home in Portugal and got used to lizards coming into the house looking for shade. I must admit I prefer dogs in the office to lizards!
If you place your orders online, then I’m the person who processes your orders and deals with any returns. I really enjoy finding new ways to make our website even better and I’m looking forward in the future to getting more involved in streamlining our website and making it simpler for both the staff and customers to use.
In my previous job most of my role was dealing with people online so I was quite familiar with how all that worked, but here I get the chance to talk to our customers on the phone as well which all adds to the variety.
In my first nine months I have already had a lot of training on all our products – what we sell, why we sell them and the history of each one. Jamie and Steph have developed our product range over many years and there’s a lot of background to each one. It means I can help customers find exactly what suits them best from our range.
All the training was particularly useful through lockdown when we were able to give new and existing customers advice on what they could or couldn’t do and how best to keep their businesses going.
One of the best experiences was going to Crufts as part of the Mutneys team – I had only been here for a few weeks! It was hard work but really great fun and a good way of settling into the company.
I’m can’t wait for my next challenge which is setting up international shipping on the website. I can’t wait to tackle it and have already made a start so we are ready to go.
I may only have been here for nine months but I’ve enjoyed everything I have done and I’m looking forward to continuing to chat to all our customers in the future and hearing all your wonderful stories!
