5 Ways to be More Mindful
As part of our Year of Positivity campaign, we are giving our community of dog groomers the tools and resources to help with general life and business issues that may arise.
Each month we will be bringing you a new blog post with different topics – last month we talked all about combatting loneliness when working alone, and this month we are going to give you some tips on how to become more mindful on a day-to-day basis.
Mindfulness is something that is often talked about, especially over the pandemic, with many people taking up new activities, hobbies and habits to help them become more mindful.
Being mindful is simply being in a state of comfort, happiness and health in your mind. Modern life often sees us rushing around with very busy schedules, looking after others before ourselves and just not dedicating time to you. It is important that we all try and dedicate time each day to be more mindful. Here’s 5 ways that you can do this:
1 – Connecting
Connecting with yourself and others is a really important step in becoming more mindful. When you connect with yourself, you are learning about yourself on a deeper emotional level which allows you to understand the fundamental parts of your personality and what really makes you truly happy and satisfied. Connecting with others will allow you to shared and discuss each other’s experiences and emotions.
2 – Be Active
Being active in your day to day life is great for the mind, as well as your body. Taking a brisk walk in the fresh air, going on a bike ride or simply cleaning the house will all raise your heart rate and flood your body with endorphins, which in turn, make you feel so much better in yourself. However, being active isn’t just about physical exercise. Having an active mind is an extremely important step to overall mindfulness.
3 – Take Notice
Take notice of your goals and something you want to achieve. Whether that is a simple goal for the day, or a bigger goal that will see you across the next 12 months. Monitoring your goals and ambitions is a great way of getting your thoughts down on paper. Other ways of taking notice of you and your thoughts is to meditate, enjoy nature and the outdoors or simply doing whatever helps you relax like knitting, reading, embroidery, colouring or doing puzzles.
4 – Learn
As humans, we are constantly learning and developing each and every day. The well known phrase ‘you learn something new every day’ is definitely true! We learn from each other’s mistakes and grow from them. Use time to learn about yourself and what gives you motivation. Learning also includes developing new skills such as a new language, teaching yourself to play a musical instrument or taking a course to build on your existing knowledge in an area.
5 – Give
Your mindfulness will thank you for this one. Giving to others and your community will in turn, give you back satisfaction and pride that you have helped someone that may need a little bit of upliftment. Volunteering for charities, giving small tokens of love, donating to food banks, or simply just offering some of your time to those in need are all fantastic ways to give.
